Final build blog of the Pilot RC 40% Yak 54

The headers finally arrived. I cut the headers to 12.5”. I can cut them shorter after initial test but cannot go shorter than 12”. There is absolutely no extra room in the pipe tunnel. I would love to do this all over again knowing what I know now. I would do the custom modification completely different or I would spend the extra money and use the DA 200.

On the initial run ups on the engine I am getting 6650 rpm with a 3W 3D prop. I think I will back the top end needle out a tad for the maiden flight just to make sure it runs cool.

The converted Fuji 50oz water bottle is plumbed for the gas and a 32oz bottle was installed for the smoke.

All of the programming is finished. I have 50% expo on everything to start. The elevator has 65 degrees of throw and the ailerons have 55 degrees.  I did not measure the rudder but I have all I can get before it hits the elevator.

I still need to weigh the plane but I suspect it will be around 43-44 pounds, if I am lucky it’s 42-43 pounds.

I could not find wing bags large enough so I had to have some custom made by “The Fly N Dutchman” in Stockton, CA. Duane does some incredible work and is really nice guy to work with. I should have the bags tomorrow.

A couple of details/facts for you:

All the servo arms are 2” SWB

The Rexel ignition is regulated to 6v via Fromeco adjustable regulator
33 feet of servo extension wire
55 servo safety clips
3 feet of Velcro
96 hours of detailed assembly
Countless hours of going over everything in my head
